Dorayaki / Dora cakes

Dorayaki is a type of Japanese confection, а red-bean pancake which consists of two small pancake-like patties made from castella wrapped around a filling of sweet Azuki red bean paste.

The original Dorayaki consisted of only one layer. Its current shape was invented in 1914 by Usagiya in the Ueno district of Tokyo.

In Japanese, dora means "gong", and because of the similarity of the shapes, this is probably the origin of the name of the sweet. Legend has it that the first Dorayaki were made when a samurai named Benkei forgot his gong (dora) upon leaving a farmer’s home where he was hiding and the farmer subsequently used the gong to fry the pancakes, thus the name Dorayaki, Says Wiki .

Doraemon characters fav food is dorayaki pancakes and so it is depicted as his favorite food (in the English dub. Doraemon is addicted to dorayaki and falls for any trap involving them. Since 2000, the company Bunmeido has been selling a limited version of dorayaki called Doraemon Dorayaki every year around March and September.

 Coming to the recipe. It's very simple and yummy. In the original recipe red bean paste is used as the stuffing. But I am using Nutella as the stuffing. Who doesn't want that? My kid just loved this version.


All purpose flour - 1 cup
Eggs -2
Sugar -1 cup
Milk - 3/4 th - 1 cup
Baking powder -1/2 tap
Salt - pinch
Nutella - required scoops

Method :

In a vessel, add the above mentioned ingredients except Nutella.
Whisk the wet ingredients together no then add the dry ingredients.
Keep it aside for 30 hour.
Heat a Tawa, add a ladle of batter to the Tawa. Add oil or butter if needed. I added oil.
It will be cooked in minutes. Flip over to the other side.
Make the small pancakes and keep it separately.
Now take a scoop of Nutella and place it on a pancake. Take another pancake and place on top of it and cover.
Nicely press the edges to stick together.

Yummy juicy chocolate flavoured pancakes or Dora cakes are ready to be grabbed.

Thinai Adai / foxtail millet Adai

Adai is a healthy tiffin made out of mixed pulses. We can make Adai in all the combinations we want. There is no specific recipe for this particular dish. We can keep changing every time we grind or mix it. We can make it with or without rice, we can change the pulses. We can also add veggies on Adai. I love to murungakeerai to the Adai. It's healthy as well as tasty to eat with anything. Today made Adai using Thinai. It was very crispy and tasty. Do try this out.


  • Gram Dal - 1/2 cup
  • Toor dal - 1/2 cup
  • Moong dal - 1/2 cup
  • Thinai / foxtail millet - 1 cup
  • Salt
  • Red Chilly 3-4
  • Coconut Oil
  • Curry leaves
  • Asafoedita


  • Wash and soak gram dal, toor dal , moong dal separately. 
  • Wash and soak Thinai separately.
  • Grind all the ingredients in the mixer grinder separately and keep the batter outside to ferment. Grind it coarsely.
  • Heat tava and Put Adai using Coconut oil. I have added drumstick leaves on top of Adai. It enhances the taste of Adai.

  • Flip the adais on both the sides and make it crispy.   

  • Crispy crunchy Adai ready to be served with tomato garlic thokku.

Blueberry pancakes

First time bought blueberries, don't know what to make. There are a couple of good recipes that can be made with blueberries. First thing that comes to my mind is pancakes. I have had so many times in the shops or streets. Waffles, pancakes, etc. I tried it myself and it was really tasty. Slightly sour blueberries. Y next attempt would be a blueberry cake. Let me come out with a easy recipe for you guys. It's a perfect breakfast or even a evening snack.

Ingredients for the pancake :

All purpose flour - 1 cup
Eggs -2
Sugar -1 cup
Milk - 3/4 th - 1 cup
Baking powder -1/2 tap
Salt - pinch
Blueberries washed 

Method :

In a vessel, add the above mentioned ingredients except blueberries.
Whisk the wet ingredients together no then add the dry ingredients.
Keep it aside for 30 hour.
Heat a Tawa, add a ladle of batter to the Tawa. Add oil or butter if needed. I added oil.
Sprinkle or throw the blueberries on top of it.
It will be cooked in minutes. Flip over to the other side.
Now the blueberries will be cooked and the juice can be tasted better.

Sprinkle some honey or maple syrup and serve hot!

Fried chicken KFC style

Today we will see the special KFC chicken recipe. I have not tried for these many days. It's a very easy recipe and very easy to make. Today when I tried I deep fried it in next attempt would be to air dry it no check the Taste.

KFC's original product is pressure fried chicken pieces, seasoned with Sanders' recipe of 11 herbs and spices. The constituents of the recipe represent a notable trade secret. Larger portions of fried chicken are served in a cardboard "bucket", which has become a well known feature of the chain since it was first introduced by franchisee Pete Harman in 1957. Since the early 1990s, KFC has expanded its menu to offer other chicken products such as chicken fillet burgers and wraps, as well as salads and side dishes, such as French fries and coleslaw, desserts, and soft drinks, the latter often supplied by PepsiCo. KFC is known for its former and current slogan "Finger Lickin' Good", which was replaced by "Nobody does chicken like KFC" and "So good" in the interim.

My main motivation to do this fry at home is my daughter. She loves this chicken, as there were lot of issues with this fried chicken, I wanted to make her healthy fried chicken at home itself. She loved it.
Her verdict : hmm yum Mommy.

Recipe follows :

Ingredients :

Chicken pieces / drumstick/ breast pieces - 500 gems
All purpose flour - one bowl
Onion powder - 3 tsp
Garlic powder - 2 tsp
Paprika - 2 tsp
Pepper powder - 1 tsp
Egg -1
Milk - 30 ml

Method :

Wash the chicken pieces and keep it aside.
In the bowl of flour, add the paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper powder, salt. Mix the dry flour with theses spice powders and keep it separately.
In a cup , add the egg and milk, a pinch of salt.beat it and keep separately.
Take the chicken pieces and dip in egg mixture and coat in the flour mixture.
Again dip the same piece in egg mixture and again flour mixture. Double coat it.
Repeat for all the pieces and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a pan, place the breaded pieces and fry it on both the sides until golden brown and crisp.

Crispy fried chicken ready within minutes.

Marble cake - Air fryer

Who do not like cakes? Cakes are important for every occasion to celebrate. If there is no occasion, let's bake a cake to celebrate the baking! 

Me and my hubby are fond of cakes. We used to buy cakes, I mean sponge cake without the cream. We eat a lot like for breakfast. I tried making cake in cooker , oven. It was a total failure for me. So I lost interest in baking. At present I don not have an oven. I have an air fryer. I tried baking in it. It's very easy and simple to bake cakes in airfryer.

Ingredients :

Maida / all purpose flour - 150 gms 
Sugar - 150 gms
Butter melted - 100 gms
Vanilla essence - 2 tsp
Baking powder - 1 tsp
Milk - 30 ml
Eggs - 2
Nutella - 1 tsp

Method :

In a vessel, add the butter and sugar and beat well using a hand mixer.
Once they become creamy, add the eggs into it and beat it until it becomes fluffy and blended well.
Add the milk and vanilla essence to this mixture and mix again.
Mix the maida and baking powder together and the flour mixture to the wet mixture. Blend well until the batter consistence is achieved.
In a small cup , take a spoon of Nutella and add 2 spoons of the batter to the Nutella and mix nicely.
Grease the pan or baking tray in which you are going to bake.
Pour half of the white batter.
Add the chocolate batter on top of it. Again add the remaining white batter .

Using a skewer or tooth pick, draw the design and mix the batter for the marble effect.

Preheat the fryer, at 160 degrees for 5 mins.
Place the pan inside thee air fryer and set the timer to 25 mins at 160 degrees. Check if it's done using a skewer by inserting it. 
When it comes clean without the batter sticking. It's done.

Tasty moist marble cake is ready to cut!
